Geeta Jayanti 2018: Days 5 – 7

Jai Shree Krishna. Jai Gurudev.

We have been having a wonderful time at Geeta Jayanti and the youth would like to apologize for the delay in the uploads. Here’s a recap from Day 5 – 7 with some salient points learned during those days.

Day 5, Chapter 5 of Geeta Jayanti.

The commentary for Chapter 5 was given by Shri Suresh Ranga. He highlighted that Chapter 5 is the basis of several spiritual schools in India. Even Paramhans Yogananda’s “Autobiography of a Yogi” emphasizes on Kriya Yoga which is based on chap 5.  Our life should be lived like the lotus flower which lives in this world but does not let the world live in us.

Day 6, Chapter 6 of Geeta Jayanti

On day 6, Shri B. R Letchumanan shared with us The Yoga of Self Discipline. He discussed the path to meditation – to be firmly established in God and achieve supreme bliss. One of the highlights of Chapter 6 is verse 6, which  emphasizes that you should lift yourself by yourself. The Atma is super consciousness. It is the higher self & can lift the lower self such as ego. Thus we create our own reality. No one can do this for us. The Lord also says in this chapter that without doubt the mind is fickle and it is difficult to control, but it can be done through practice and dispassion.

Chapter 7 of Geeta Jayanti

Sister Nirmlah gave us an excellent commentary on Chapter 7. The main highlights of this Chapter are:
– Ishwara’s Gyaan, Iccha and Kriya Shaktis sustain this universe
– These 3 Ishwara’s Shaktis are our glories.
– To overcome our delusion we have to cross Ishwara’s maya shakti
– For knowledge to blossom into wisdom orientation is needed to remind us we are not the body. Otherwise the 3 Gunas delude us.
– Maya makes the limitless Brahman limited. Because we identify with body and mind we set ourselves with limited goals.
– We attempt to control the world and get under the trap of Maya.
– To free ourselves from this delusion use our willpower and do punya to eliminate our past karmas.

An Equal Eye

Kabir Quote
sarva-bhūtastham ātmānaḿ
sarva-bhūtāni cātmani
īkṣate yoga-yuktātmā
sarvatra sama-darśanaḥ

The Yogi, who is united in identity with the all-pervading, infinite, consciousness, and looks on all with an equal eye, sees the Self present in all beings, and all beings existing in the Self.
