*Some Background On Sunderkand

Ramayana has been divided into seven sections by Goswami Tulsidas as follows:

  1. Balyakand
  2. Ayodhyakand
  3. Aranyakand
  4. Kishkindhakand
  5. Sunderkand
  6. Lankakand
  7. Utarakand
Sunderkand is the fifth section of the Ramcharitmanas. It is a beautiful, rhythmic verbal description of Sri Hanumanji. The word ‘sunder’ meaning beautiful, handsome, virtuous, and good, appears in 24 chaupai/verses. Sri Hanumanji is the chief character in Sunderkand.

It has been said that after writing Kishkindhakand, Tulsidasji called Hanumanji by performing sadhna (dedicated contemplation, practice), upasana (worship) and aahwan (invocation). Sunderkand was written in the presence of Hanumanji. At the end of writing Sunderkand, Tulsidasji requested Shri Hanumanji to give blessings to devotees who recite Sunderkand by freeing them from worries and problems, which was accepted by Lord Shri Hanumanji.

We would like to invite all to join us for this auspicious prayer this Saturday πŸ™‚

πŸ™πŸ» Jai Shri Hanuman! Jai Shri Ram!
*Copies of the Sunderkand Path (in Hindi and English-romanised text) will be provided at the Ashram, so that all will be able to follow the path.
